The Mehlbergs Come to Visit

May 8, May 27, and June 11, 2016

Owen was lucky enough to meet many of the Mehlbergs during his first few weeks of life!

Uncle Tom Mehlberg came to visit Owen on Mother's Day with Tutu. Owen was less than 2 weeks old!

The Camp Family came to visit on their drive south to San Diego for Shane's basketball tournament. They brought sandwiches and we had a nice picnic in the backyard. Owen (and Reef) slept the whole time!

Uncle Bill and Aunt Peg McCarberg drove up just to meet little Owen. We had lunch afterwards at Grandma and Grandpa Mehlberg's house. It was a great afternoon.

Rock Climbing with Lena

June 12, 2016

Lena was excited to come down and meet Owen, so she made the trip south for the weekend. She stayed the night with us on Saturday, and hung out with us all day on Sunday. The weather turned out to be perfect for a trip to the crag, so we went up Ortega Highway and climbed top rope at Ortega Falls. We thought it was perfect that Lena took Owen out for his first day at the crag because she took us out for our first day of climbing 5 or 6 years ago. Lena is such a great teacher, and we know she will have Owen up on the ropes one day.

We had a great time at the crag. We only climbed one route, then had a nice picnic under a big sycamore tree. Owen was great the whole time. It was the perfect first day out!

 Thanks for coming, Lena!

Meeting Grandpa Draguesku

May 25, 2016

Grandpa Mike flew out from Texas to meet Owen. Grandpa booked his flights before Owen was born, and we were afraid that Owen might not be here yet when Grandpa came. Luckily Owen was born early and Grandpa got to spend a day with him! We had a great time telling stories of Brandon and Brooke's childhood, and thinking about who Owen looked like. We all thought he looked a lot like Brandon's baby picture.

We took a hike at Trails in the afternoon. It was a perfect California day.

We had a BBQ in the evening with the whole Draguesku family. Brooke's boyfriend Kyle came too! Brandon made a great dinner.

Thanks for coming to visit, Grandpa!

Beach time!

Second Month

Owen has already spent quite some time by the ocean in his few weeks of life. He is one lucky dude for all the help of our family and friends!

We walked down to Trail 3 with the Davidson's on Memorial Day weekend. Lisa held Owen while Brandon and I paddled out for our first time together since Owen was born. We had a great time together, and really appreciated Lisa's help!

We spent a great afternoon aboard the Davidson's boat in the Dana Point Harbor on May 28, 2016. Owen did great, and all the moms loved holding him.

The walk down to Lowers. Thanks for the ride, Grandpa!

Having a blast with our little dude!

First Dip in the Ocean

May 30, 2016

We spent the day surfing and hanging out at our favorite beach, Lowers. It was chilly outside, but we thought the time was right for Owen to get his feet in the water. After all, Owen was 5 weeks old already!

Surfers baptism. Waves were pumping!

 Burrrr.  Where's my wetsuit?

1 Month Old

May 23, 2016

Owen is 1 month old today! He weighs 8lbs, 8 oz. and is 21.75 inches tall. His favorite things to do are sleeping and eating. He likes to pee on us when we change his diaper. He loves to be swaddled.  He eats every 2.5 to 3 hours during the day, and every 4 hours at night. He sleeps in a crib next to mommy's side of the bed. He doesn't like bright sunshine in his eyes.

Cosmic Creek 2016

May 21, 2016

The Cosmic Creek surf contest has been held at Salt Creek in Dana Point for many years. For the last few years, the company that Uncle Eric works for, Vissla, has hosted the contest. As the Marketing Manager for Vissla, that means a whole lot of work for Uncle E.  Uncle Eric organized the event again this year, and totally kicked butt. We had a great time at Owen's first surf contest!

Owen did great, just hanging under the umbrella. This was his first time hanging at the beach all weekend. He got the hang of nursing "on the go". It was great to have friends and family on the beach to help watch him!

Before the boys heat. Mike made it all the way to the finals!

The day before the contest, Eric called and told me he put me in a heat. I was so nervous. I hadn't touched the water since Owen was born 4 weeks earlier, and hadn't ridden a surfboard since February. I would be competing against men! It turned out to be perfect. The heats were only 20 minutes so I didn't get too tired, and finding out the day before didn't give me a lot of time to stress about it. I had a blast. I didn't advance out of my heat, but I caught some fun waves and was happy with how I surfed. More than anything, I was happy to be back in the water. Thanks E!

After the contest on Saturday was a concert in the Park. The music was great, and the tribe was stoked to share the afternoon together. Owen experienced his first surf contest and concert all in 1 day!

Our good friend Blake from Carpinteria came down for the event, and made it to the finals with Eric and Mike. Blake and his new puppy, Che, stayed with us for the weekend. It was great to catch up and share our new parenting experiences. Che is a great dog and we are excited to go on more adventures with him in the future.

After the event finished on Sunday, everyone brought food over to our house and we and a BBQ in the backyard. What a great way to close out the weekend! Thanks again and great job on the contest, Uncle E!
