The Cosmic Creek surf contest
has been held at Salt Creek in Dana Point for many years. For the last
few years, the company that Uncle Eric works for, Vissla, has hosted the
contest. As the Marketing Manager for Vissla, that means a whole lot of
work for Uncle E. Uncle Eric organized the event again this year, and
totally kicked butt. We had a great time at Owen's first surf contest!
Owen
did great, just hanging under the umbrella. This was his first time
hanging at the beach all weekend. He got the hang of nursing "on the
go". It was great to have friends and family on the beach to help watch
him!
Before the boys heat. Mike made it all the way to the finals!
The
day before the contest, Eric called and told me he put me in a heat. I
was so nervous. I hadn't touched the water since Owen was born 4 weeks
earlier, and hadn't ridden a surfboard since February. I would be
competing against men! It turned out to be perfect. The heats were only
20 minutes so I didn't get too tired, and finding out the day before
didn't give me a lot of time to stress about it. I had a blast. I didn't
advance out of my heat, but I caught some fun waves and was happy with
how I surfed. More than anything, I was happy to be back in the water.
Thanks E!
After
the contest on Saturday was a concert in the Park. The music was great,
and the tribe was stoked to share the afternoon together. Owen
experienced his first surf contest and concert all in 1 day!
Our
good friend Blake from Carpinteria came down for the event, and made it
to the finals with Eric and Mike. Blake and his new puppy, Che, stayed
with us for the weekend. It was great to catch up and share our new
parenting experiences. Che is a great dog and we are excited to go on
more adventures with him in the future.
After
the event finished on Sunday, everyone brought food over to our house
and we and a BBQ in the backyard. What a great way to close out the
weekend! Thanks again and great job on the contest, Uncle E!
