Cleaning up the Moto

March 16, 2017

Owen loves cleaning up his dad's bike after the races. He will be our pit crew in no time!

First Lowers Drop Off

March 12, 2017

When we go to Trestles, one person usually drives the group and drops them off at the top of the trail to walk down with the beach gear. The driver heads home and comes back on a bicycle, hence the moniker "The Lowers Drop Off".  Owen has always come down the trail with the walking group, either in a backpack or stroller. This weekend he was ready to be a part of the drop off crew, and ride down to the beach with his Dad. Maybe one day, Owen will be driving on his own and dropping off his mom and dad! Big dreams!

Comin down the trail. Thanks for the photos, Davo!

He earned his beach time today!

Time to head back up! Great day with the Davos!

Glen Helen Grand Prix

March 4, 2017

While I was at Mary Dowell's bachlorette party in Palm Springs with the girls, Brandon had his third race of the season at Glen Helen. Grandma Annette and Owen rooted on from the sidelines. Brandon has dreamed of racing at Glen Helen for a long time. In his words, it's "the Lower Trestles of moto". I think he means that it's the best track around and it attracts the best riders.  He remembers racing out there as a little boy on and it was really cool for him to come back. He had a good race and didn't get hurt, so in my book, he won!

Quick Camp Trip to Johnson Valley

February 25, 2017

We headed out for a quick overnight to Cougar Buttes in Johnson Valley so Brandon could ride motos with his friends with the excellent conditions. The weather was great, and Owen had fun with all the toys. He thought about taking his first steps, but didn't quite make it happen this trip. Owen went on his first moto ride with Dad in his Baby Bjorn pack. The ride lasted 10 seconds and looped around the camp site, but Owen was super stoked!

Colleen's Broken Wrist

February 11, 2017

On Saturday morning, we headed to Brandon's office at Stance to ride the skate bowl together and kick off the weekend. We've skated most of our lives, and have skated this bowl a million times before. It was just like any other Saturday morning. Unfortunately, despite wearing a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads, I managed to fall and break my wrist. I knew it was bad right away, so we headed straight to the hospital. Three and a half hours later, we were sent home with the thorough diagnosis of "probably broken" from the emergency room.

After seeing a few orthopedic surgeons and having an MRI the following week, we discovered the wrist was badly broken. The distal end of the radius had splintered in two, and the head of the radius had completely broken off and shifted down. I went in for surgery that Friday and came home with a plate and seven screws. I had a reaction to the pain medication and managed to itch my nose so hard that my face was bruised before the nurses noticed what I was doing in my stupor. No cast was needed after the surgery and the stitches were removed in 2.5 weeks. As of this posting, I'm 2 months out from the initial break and already surfing again. So stoked!

Stormy Winter

Winter 2017

We have had one of the rainiest winters in recent memory this year. San Mateo creek actually has water! Owen has been having fun exploring around town.

Taft Grand Prix

February 4, 2017

Grand prix race number 2 of Brandon's year was in Taft.  Brandon raced here back in 2014, so it was fun to see the track again. We drove out late Friday night and camped with Blake, Bud and Jim.  Owen had a blast in the camper, and we could see the track from the bed windows. Brandon raced Unclassified in the morning to test the track, then went out again for his Veterans class race. Brandon and Bud raced together and had a fun battle back and fourth. It was Bud's first race ever, so we showered him with a congratulatory beer when he came in. Blake when out for the WCGP race and we watched from the sidelines. After a healthy lunch of chili fries, we got back on the road and were home Saturday evening. We are so proud of Brandon for getting out there, having fun, and staying safe.
